Black night
“Nuit Noire” is a Gothic music program that I created as a live program with visual sequences
I initially conceived and performed it in my repertoire.
The program has been running regularly as an automated music program in the Bochum Planetarium for several years.

“The day is only an illusion for us earthly beings – in reality we always thwart the darkest night”
In “Nuit Noire” the large clockwork in the heart of the Ruhr area is transformed into a world theater. To a
musical set of dark electro and gothic rock songs by newcomers and well-known names such as Depeche Mode,
Rammstein or Raison d'Être program producer Tobias Wiethoff records the planetarium dome live
Visuals in 360 degrees.
The planetarium invites all angels, demons and other nocturnal creatures to gather around this witch fire
of the images from the panoramic projecting Laterna Magica. To the atmospheric sounds
we experience holographic apparitions, stroll through prehistoric ones under the crystal clear starry sky
Forests before we set off into the vast sea of cosmic darkness.
Production background
During production I made extensive use of the “Terragen” program, among other things.
made, which created quite impressive virtual landscapes for the time
had manufactured. At that time there were no sophisticated plug-ins or software functions
create immersive content. At least five views of a scene always had to be rendered and then “stiched”, i.e. combined into a hemispherical view. A friend of mine had written his own script for the rendering of the “Space Tour” scenes in Terragen.
The program of choice for stitching the renderings was “Pineapple” Stitcher, a small tool that only accepted uncompressed *tga image files and thus led to considerable amounts of data in the production process.
